A New Renal Website!
The Kidney Foundation just launched its updated renal diet website, Kidney Community Kitchen (www.kidneycommunitykitchen.ca). The site was first introduced in 2011: an easy to use, interactive and information-rich resource on diet and nutrition for people living with kidney disease. The bold new look highlights recipes chosen specifically for people living with kidney disease, as well as meal plans created by dietitians.
Over 180 enticing recipes are on the site (with more being added all the time), and can be sorted by meal type, like international cuisine or vegetarian options, or by diet type for those managing nutrient limits, such as phosphorous or sodium.
One of the most valuable and interesting features of this website is its Menu Planner. Users can create weekly meal plans based on their nutrition goals, helping them to track daily intake of sodium, phosphorus, potassium and protein.
The site is loaded with useful hints and information to help navigate the many challenges of following a renal diet. There’s even an Ask a Dietitian form, if you can’t find the information you need. The Dietitian’s Blog and quarterly e-News offer diet and nutrition information, and seasonal recipes to help you stick with your renal diet.
